Ms. Denise TrimbleSmith is the first in her family to graduate college and has obtained her A.A. in American Sign Language Interpreting from El Camino College, B.A. in History from Arizona State University, and M.A. in Special Education from Northern Arizona University.  Denise was an American Sign Language teacher at the secondary and collegiate levels for nearly 20 years. She joined the team at Northern Arizona University in 2017 as the Coordinator of Fraternity and Sorority Life where she is the primary advisor for the Interfraternity Council (IFC). While serving as the Coordinator, Ms. Denise created the  Council of Presidents, advised the College Panhellenic Council (CPC), United Greek Council (UGC), was directly responsible for growing our Historical African American Sororities and Fraternities/National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) from 1 – 3 organizations and created the Black Leadership Summit. At NAU she also serves as the Chairwoman of the Commission on Ethnic Diversity where she advises the President of the University on advocating change for people of color and allies committed to anti-racist, and non-discriminatory practices on the campus. Ms. Denise is a proud 27 year life member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Denise is the Owner and CEO of Courageous Conversations LLC. a consulting firm that presents an opportunity for individuals, families, teams, couples, large and small groups to navigate their way through sensitive and/or difficult topics with a goal of concurring conflict through Courage.
